Chichester can't spoil the Teddy boys' party

Teddington took the lead when a penalty corner was won and ex-international Callum Giles drag flicked the ball into the bottom corner.

Chichester’s response was very positive; a quick break down the right found Cam Mead in some space whose shot was goal bound when a defender illegally stopped the ball.

From the resulting penalty stroke, Mead calmly stepped up and roofed the flick to make it 1-1.

Teddington then scored two quick goals with clinical penalty corners, however Chichester did not let this effect them and were soon back in the game when Jack Lerwill dispossessed a Teddington player and played in Matt Cox reversed the ball into the bottom corner.

Teddington, who were a man down after a yellow card, almost saw Chichetser back on level terms through a magnificent team move.

After 15 passes the ball found its way to a free Martin Gough at the back post who had an empty goal in front of him but was unable to capitalise, meaning they trailed 3-2 at half-time.

Chichester then hit the post before Teddington broke through the Chichester back line to score. They then won another penalty corner and converted again.

And although Matt Cox pulled a goal back and went close on two other occasions, Teddington sealed the win with another strike.3-6.

With Chichester being dragged down into a relegation battle and with only three games to go, this week’s away fixture against Spencer is a must win.

Chichester set off to Hastings in an upbeat frame of mind as they had stabilized their season by beating East Grinstead a few weeks before, but it turned out to be a game that neither side could be proud of.

Chichester had found over the last three or four games the form that they knew they were capable of and this showed in the resilience of defence.

South Saxons broke quickly but they couldn’t find a way through, while Chichester had a few attempts on goal but couldn’t convert any of them.

Sussex League

A break away by Thew and a clean high shot beat the Horsham keeper and saw Centurions first on the score sheet, but straight away Horsham pressed and the score was levelled.

The second half was again end-to-end. A corner to Centurions saw Brown’s shot saved off the line, while goalkeeper Harris was called on to save off the line at the other end. Despite further chances for both sides neither could find a break through and the honours were shared/
