Chinese add sauce to sevens mix

CHINA were late additions on Sunday to the most competitive Bob Knight Sevens Tournament yet hosted by Worthing Rugby Club.

The second national team to appear at Roundstone Lane '” Canada were the first back in the 1980s '” they trounced a young Haywards Heath side 26-0 to win the second-tier Shield Final.

But Worthing's delight at the unexpected Chinese visit and their generous hospitality may have stretched a tad too far when they appointed a Chinaman to referee the final.

His lack of English, especially when explaining decisions around the tackle area, reportedly sowed the seeds of a fracas of frustration between defending champions, the British Army, and Scorpions in the competition final.
