CRICKET: CLUB TO JOIN REVAMPED SUSSEX CRICKET LEAGUE

WEST Chilitington and Thakeham Cricket Club will be joining a revamped Sussex Invitation League (SIL) in 2008.

The SIL has been hit by teams leaving for the new County League Division 3 and has had to restructure its leagues into two divisions for 2008.

This is in readiness for discussions with all other Sussex leagues as the Sussex Cricket Board (SCB) pursues a pyramid structure throughout the county.

Although the SCB has announced a moratorium on promotion/relegation for a couple of seasons, it has written to all leagues informing them that change is a necessity for the development of county cricket.

Club chairman David Hardisty commented: "We are continuing discussions at present and have made it known that we are prepared to enter the SIL provided they are working towards the pyramid structure the Sussex Cricket Board wants to see.

"As a rapidly developing club with nearly 200 senior and junior members, we have been frustrated by the lack of opportunity for both promotion and relegation of league sides, and the problems facing new sides wanting to enter any league in the current structure."

The club will be hosting Sussex County Cricket Club at a benefit match at Recreation Ground, Mill Road, West Chiltington (next to the village hall) on Sunday, September 2 for Richard Montgomerie. Entry is free and there will be lots to do for all the family.
