CRICKET: Littlehampton end up with a draw

LITTLEHAMPTON Cricket Club had to settle for a draw in their match against Pagham in Division 3 West on Saturday, in a game which could have gone either way throughout the day.

Littlehampton won the toss and had a bat but it was a somewhat disappointing innings as they posted just 196 all out.

Benn Challen led the way with 62 while Chris Heberlein added 48, as the only real run-makers for Littlehampton.

Pagham then put up 60 without loss to put them in good shape, but a great second spell from Littlehampton's Luke Vinter (4-33), including taking 4-0 in his last seven overs, helped Littlehampton back into the game.

Pagham completely collapsed and Littlehampton failed to get their final wicket in three overs, as Pagham finished on 117-9.

Littlehampton's top run scorer Benn Challen said: "After we had batted I thought our total was about 30 or 40 runs too short. Ryan Budd came in and opened well, while James Askew did well despite not getting too many runs.

"The wicket was a bit up and down which is what caught James out, but we thought we still had a chance of bowling at them.

"Dan River and Ryan Budd did well with the ball to help us get on top of them after the had started by putting on 60 runs without loss, before an excellent spell from Luke.

"We had three overs at their last pair but couldn't get them. It was a strange one and a bit frustrating, but from the position they were in, to have them at 70-odd short and nine down at the end was great."

Littlehampton now face Bognor next weekend.
