CRICKET: Sussex CCC looking forward to Arundel Festival

SUSSEX County Cricket Club return to Arundel next week for the HSBC Arundel Festival, and coach Mark Robinson is eagerly anticipating the event, having described it as everyone's favourite matches.

The annual event at Arundel Castle starts on Wednesday with a four-day County Championship game against Gloucestershire, before they will look to continue their fine form in the Friends Provident t20 competition.

The festival, which has become increasingly popular over the years, attracting more than 12,000 last year, is expect to draw large crowds again to the picturesque setting next week.

Robinson, who lives locally near Arundel, is especially looking forward to the event and, he said: "The Arundel matches are enjoyable for everyone, it is one that the fans, umpires, and players of both sides look forward too.

"It's because it is a great setting and generally a great wicket as well. It is everyone's favourite game and everyone wants to be involved."

Last year's Championship clash ended in a draw, but Robinson is hoping for impressive performances against both Gloucestershire and rivals Surrey.

He said: "Last year, we had the better of the draw, but we have played well and have a good record at Arundel in recent years.

"There will be a number of exciting players on show for both matches.

"We will have the best possible team out, as it is a crucial game going back into Championship action, after a number of one-dayers.

"Players like Corey Collymore and Monty Panesar will be coming back in as we look to hit them hard.

"Against Surrey, our old captain Chris Adams and ex-player Rory Hamilton-Brown being there gives it an extra flavour."
