Sam Varcoe also scored an unbeaten 52 as Clymping eased home with 163 for the loss of four wickets in 30.2 overs.

Clymping captain James Salisburys said: “It’s a shame we did not take all 30 points, but I am always happy with a win.

“It was a good wicket and quick outfield so I was looking at about 220/230, that was about par.

“It was a good innings from their opener at the top of the order. I wanted to put them in first as we were a bit worried about them blocking out for the draw.

“James Askew did well with the ball taking the wickets in his 15 overs and he rarely ever bowls 15 overs so that was good.

“It was a man-of-the-match display from James, he batted superbly at the top of the order in the absence of Blanny.”

Matt Leclere top scored in the visitors’ innings with 66 as he and Nick Nolan (32) put in a second-wicket stand of 66 to take them to 87-2 when the latter was caught out by Gareth Challen off Varcoe’s bowling.

Varcoe – who took figures of 3-42 – quickly dismissed James Amis, before Paul Challen’s bowling claimed the vital wicket of Leclere.

Chris Green added eight, before Varcoe and Karl Pierce saw the hosts home.
