FOOTBALL: Albion star Andrew Whing's weekly column (September 25)

HOPEFULLY this morning, one of our players will be on the back page of the national papers having scored the winner against Man City last night.

Writing this before the game, it's a chance for someone to be a hero, or for the whole team to be heroes. Especially after City's great 6-0 win over Portsmouth on Sunday.

We were very disappointed with the game on Saturday, although fair play to Walsall for defending fantastically.

We put 58 crosses into their box in the second half, but just couldn't break them down.

Against nine men, you're expecting to win, but unfortunately we didn't do enough.

We all went in to training on Sunday, and watched a video of the game and then had a long discussion to get the game out of our system.

Last week, the players' dog, Dash of Paradise, won its first race at Hove, although Colin Hawkins was in Germany having his operation, so missed out on it.

He was gutted to miss it, so to make him feel better we sent him pictures of us all celebrating with the money we'd won, and our winning tickets!

We weren't expecting him to win, at odds of 5-1, but he romped home, despite getting bumped at the first bend.

There was hardly anyone there, but the six of us were jumping up and down, celebrating like we'd won the World Cup.

But going to the dogs is always a great night out, and brings all the lads together.
