Football success BUCS up University of Chichester

THE UNIVERSITY of Chichester's men's football club had three teams progress to the next round of the BUCS Cup, including the second team, for whom Declan Hartigan's four-goal haul aided a 9-0 drubbing of Medway.

In hockey the men’s first team lost a dramatic tie at home to Canterbury Christchurch 4-3, with the opposition goalkeeper in inspired form saving two penalty flicks, the second in the last play of the match.

The netball club enjoyed three convincing wins.

Highlights included the seconds’ 63-11 hammering of St Georges and the thirds’ overwhelming 72-5 victory over University of the Arts.

In all six teams progressed to the next round with nine knocked out.

In the league, just six games were played. The women’s rugby team secured a 12-0 victory at Cardiff to maintain their impressive start.

The women’s football first team were desperately unlucky to lose 4-3 away to Hertfordshire after racing into a 3-0 lead. Their seconds continued their early league domination with a 9-0 win over KCL firsts.

In basketball, the Women’s first team held off St Marys in a thriller at BOC – it finished 69-59 – to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season, with former England junior Katie Doubleday impressing.
