Chapman: '˜There's no need to panic yet'

Striker Chris Smith did re-sign but Chapman is still in talks with four players as he tries to get some experience in to compliment his current crop of young players.

He told Middy Sport: “It probably looks like we are not doing anything but we are. There’s no need to panic yet. We’ve still got nine weeks before the season starts so no need to panic at all.

“We have lost five or six but there were always going to be changes. We’ve kept the majority of the young lads and we need to make sure we put the right people around them and if that takes us four or five weeks we will do that.”

“We’ve got fantastic young lads at the club and we need to bring some experience in toi join them. Eventually hopefully that will happen but at the moment other teams are signing a lot of players, but they can’t play them all can they?

“These other clubs will be promising certain things but we are not going to do that, we want the right people. It’s frustrating because we are speaking to people.”

“I’m still talking to people, just waiting for people to get back to me.

“It’s silly time, we have bid for people but we are not in the ballpark with some of them.

“We have got the budget we have got. I am not moaning or anything but we are what we are.

“I am not going to put the chairman under pressure. We have got what we have got and we have got to use it wisely.

“We have got to get the right people who want to play for the club.”

Chapman also described the Ollie Rowe deal falling through as ‘a kick in the teeth’.

The deal fell through after Rowe got a new job in Canterbury and the travelling would have been too much for him.

Chapman said: “He agreed to come to us, it was all sorted, then he got his new job.

“I have been speaking to him. He came down to play in a tournament a couple of weeks ago and he said it took two hours. It wouldn’t work logistically for him to sign for us.

“It was a real kick in the teeth. He’s the sort of player we wanted at the club but his job comes first. I understand his reasons.”

Ollie Rowland has left the club to join Horsham. Chapman said: “Ollie’s gone to Horsham. We offered him something but he wanted more money.”
