Crawley Town’s Man of the Match against Portsmouth Simon Walton believes they have he experience to turn a promising clean sheet against Portsmouth into a win away against Cambridge United.

He said: “We haven’t got the biggest squad but we’ve got good quality in the squad and the sooner we start gelling the sooner we start winning games.”

Walton, who played against Cambridge last season for Stevenage, revealed: “I’ve got every faith in this group of players we all know we’ve got to improve but Tuesday’s 0-0 draw was a massive step in the right direction for us.

“They are going to be a different beast to what they were last year. We (Stevenage) played them last year and there are a few who probably wouldn’t have gone to Cambridge last year!

“Everyone seems to be investing in signing good players.

“We have no-one to fear. Tonight was a good point. Keeping a clean sheet could turnout to be a massive turning point for us.

“It’ll be another tough game on Saturday but the main thing was we wanted to show we would not be an easy touch and could show resilience.

“Having been there last year and been quite successful (reaching the Play-offs), I know what it takes to grid out results and hopefully we can continue and start winning games now.”

Reds manager Mark Yates added: “This first five games we want to get as many points as we can so we can have a bit of confidence going into the rest of the season.

“They’ve (Cambridge) had a great year getting up and the fact they played Manchester United in the Cup means they have allowed the manager to go out and spend some money on some quite outstanding players.

“It’s going to be tough - they are big, they are strong, they are organised, they are competitive and quite honestly they’ve got some good players.

“We’ve got to go there with a gameplan again and hopefully get something from the game.

“I’d like us to have a bit more possession a bit more of an attacking threat than we did against Portsmouth.”
