Crone bagged 29 goals for Common during the recently concluded campaign before suffering a season-ending blow on March 9 during a 1-0 defeat away to Storrington.

It was first feared Crone would be out for around six months following surgery for a suspected Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury. However, further investigation on the problem has revealed he still has connecting fibres, and it is a Medial (MCL) strain rather than a tear.

Plans to operate have now been scrapped, with Crone testing his leg out since the doctor gave the okay last week. “I’ve started running and am aiming to be back for the start of pre-season training,” said the teenage forward.

“I’ve started gym work too; running, rowing, cycling. It’s felt fine, although it has ached for 30 minutes or so after exercise. I’m definitely feeling better though and improving, the next stage will be kicking a ball.”

Common finished in the third and final promotion place from Sussex County Football League Division Two - their highest ever position - after beating champions Littlehampton Town on the final day.
