Key night for football clubs

Bexhill United, Sidley United and Westfield face key games in the run-up to Christmas tonight (Tuesday).

Sidley are at home to East Grinstead Town in Sussex County Football League Division One, while in Division Two, Bexhill go to Eastbourne United AFC and Westfield make the long journey to Oakwood.

John Lambert is desperate for his Sidley side to halt a run of one point from a possible 12, a sequence which incidentally started with a 2-0 loss in the reverse fixture on November 26.

Although eighth-placed Sidley are four places and three points above Grinstead with three games in hand, they also lost 3-2 at home to the Wasps in a Sussex Senior Cup tie on September 27.

Bexhill will be aiming for a victory which will take them back into the top half, but they certainly won’t find it easy against a useful Eastbourne side which will overtake them if they win.

The sides drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture at The Polegrove on October 18 which will be best remembered for the red cards shown to Matt Sellick and Billy Trickett.

Sellick is banned for the return, Andy Garman and Josh Elliott-Noye are injured, and Grant Payne is unavailable. Danny Ellis, pictured, will play, though, and Aaron Parris and Warren Parris will return.

It’s second-bottom versus third-bottom as Oakwood host Westfield. Both teams have accrued 15 points, but Westfield have a superior goal difference and have played two fewer matches.

All three games will kick-off at 7.45pm and the results will appear on this website tomorrow morning. News of any postponements - should there be any - will follow later today.
