Nine-man Rye crash out of Vase

Rye United’s hopes of another FA Vase run were ended before they even started.

Quarter-finalists last season, Rye were knocked out in round two on Saturday when they lost 2-1 at home to Three Bridges after having two players sent-off.

Duncan McArthur gave Rye a dream start with a stunning third minute goal from fully 40 yards, but Liam Upton was dismissed for a late challenge on 25 minutes.

Sidley United crashed out of the Sussex County League John O’Hara League Cup after losing 3-2 on penalties to lower grade Southwick in round three.

Westfield ended their long losing run with a 2-2 draw at home to Steyning Town in Sussex Division Two. Sam Willett and the returning David Pugh scored the goals.

Bexhill United lost 2-1 away to Rustington in the same division despite taking a first half lead through Danny Ellis. Warren Parsons received his marching orders.
