The hosts took a lead as early as the third minute as a hopeful Scott Tipper ball sailed over a leaden-footed defence and into Rory Biggs’ path, with the midfielder taking the ball on and finding the far corner with the outside of his boot.

Arundel’s second came in the ninth minute with a clinical pass from Lloyd Walker, once again past a static defence, and Biggs volleyed home from the edge of the area.

Shoreham’s Ebou Jallow capitalised on Ashley Hunter’s slip after 41 minutes and then cut the ball back for Carl Dunk to rifle the ball home from 12 yards.

A late challenge by Lawrence Edwards on Scott Tipper saw a penalty was awarded on 47 minutes. Two minutes of treatment for Tipper ensued before Rory Biggs stuck the spot-kick in the corner to complete his first senior hat-trick and restore the hosts’ two-goal cushion.

It seemed that all hope was lost for Mussels in the 62nd minute when Jamie Craddock opted to throw the ball in Rory Biggs’ face as well as rip his shirt.

The Shoreham winger rightly received a straight red, although a few others may regard themselves as lucky not to have an end-of-season fine to pay.

Rather than deflate the visitors, it seemed to galvanise them and Jallow grabbed a second for Mussels with a free header from a corner in the 71st minute to set up a hectic finish, although Mullets held out.
