Lee Robinson netted a hat-trick, while Oliver Davies got the opener as Newhaven ran out 4-2 winners in the Culver Road showpiece.

City showed some great grit and got themselves back to 2-2 after trailing by two goals at the break.

Kieran Hartley and Josh Clack got the goals to give Chi real hope of a remarkable turnaround.

However, two late strikes from Robinson ensured it was Dockers who lifted the RUR crown in 2016.

Rutherford felt his side did not deserve to lose and said: “I thought we were the better side on the night and it’s a really tough defeat to take. We gave away four poor goals and that was what cost us in the end.

“I can’t fault the players, I thought they did well tonight, it’s just major disappointment.

“Once we got that second I thought there was only going to be one winner in it as did most people in the ground probably. Hats off to Newhaven, though, they got the third and kicked on.”
