Rye boss: Discipline cost us

Rye lost 2-1 at home to Three Bridges in round two on Saturday after having two players sent-off in the first 53 minutes.

In an unusual case of deja vu, the Quarterboys also went out of the national competition last season with nine men in a quarter-final tie at King’s Lynn Town.

Their manager Scott Price said: “It was King’s Lynn all over again. What annoys me more than anything is both sending-offs are when we’re winning. If you’re chasing the game you can understand it.

“I’m not going to defend them. To be fair I think our discipline this season has been very good, but it’s our discipline that’s cost us the game. We just lost our heads.”

Price said he didn’t get a good view of either red card. Liam Upton was first to go in the 25th minute for a late challenge on Bridges number two Callum Donaghey.

Duncan McArthur was next to go in the 53rd minute for a two-footed lunge on James Grant having given Rye a third minute lead with a superb goal from distance.

Two goals in the last 15 minutes by Lee Carney, both from outside the penalty area, put Bridges through and avenged their defeat to Rye in the third round last season.
