Neil Redman, club chairman, explained why the club have started the campaign and said: “Our club is in the heart of the village, we feel very grateful to the community and local businesses for their continued support. The Lockdown Exercise Challenge is just one way we feel we can provide something back.

"It not only keeps our players and committee healthy but we hope that others will join in with the exercises shown in the short video clips. These have been recorded by players and coaches from our youth teams, senior team and vets team.

"The lockdown has been very tough on the club and players but more importantly on the community. Staying fit and healthy is something we understand at the club so we want to send that message out to everyone.

"Social media is a great way for people to engage and communicate during the lockdown so we wanted to utilise our platforms to do this. Mental health, as well as physical health is an important subject to cover.”

People of all fitness levels can take part in the exercises provided which take no more than 5 minutes. Most are designed so that you can take part indoors or within your garden so that social distancing rules can be met.

Taking to technology the coaches have been able to host a virtual training session using Zoom.

Showcasing selected videos, the players have been learning about a range of techniques and passages of plays that Nick and Charlie are keen for the team to learn and implement for next season.

“The players were extremely keen to be involved with the virtual training and it has been great to see their focus and enthusiasm throughout the 45min sessions," said Nick.

"The session not only develops their knowledge of the game but also provides time for them to interact with each other. Keeping our players fit and healthy is extremely important to us but their mental well-being also needs to be considered.

"Outside of the virtual training sessions we have encouraged our players to exercise daily with the use of a points system awarded for a variety of exercises and an online scoreboard which is reset each week.”
