Wimble keeps Blues going in right direction in Sussex League

The visitors, who hadn’t tasted victory since the opening day of the season, took the lead in first-half stoppage time thanks to a Louis Pople penalty.

But Wimble struck five minutes from time to rescue a point for the home side and make it five goals in three games.

Selsey improved on that resulted with a 3-1 win at Arundel on Tuesday night.

Manager Hinshelwood was pleased with his forward’s purple patch and said a draw was ultimately a good result.

He said: “The game was a bit scrappy but after 75 minutes we would have taken a draw so it was pleasing in that sense.

“It was a bit of a soft penalty for them and we had a few appeals of our own turned down but it was good to get a late goal.

“Rob’s one of the best strikers in the league and if you give him opportunities he’s going to find the back of the net.

“It’s not all about one individual in particular but obviously he’s got that bit of quality and it’s a case of moving the ball confidently to get goals.”

Since the appointment of the former Brighton defender, Selsey’s average attendance stands at 93 – and another 100 fans were out in force on Saturday.

Despite this, though, the manager was reluctant to comment on whether or not this meant he’d won over the supporters.

“I don’t know about that,” he said. “I expect the fans just wanted to see us at home as we were away for the whole of October. We have to make sure we put on a bit of a show in the next few home games and make sure they come back.”

Selsey host Sidley on Saturday and visit Worthing on Tuesday – both in the league.
