Youth football: Buoyant Barnham are in the cup final

UNDER-TEN

Lancing Rangers 0 Barnham A 2

Barnham deservedly won a competitive Invitation Cup semi-final.

Playing with the wind in the first half they piled on the pressure and created several opportunities before Davidson put them in front with a typical poacher’s goal.

Barnham moved up a gear in the second half playing into the wind, restricting Lancing to very few opportunities before Davidson secured the win with a fantastic header from a fine Higgins-Pearce free-kick.

There were superb midfield displays from Cook, Hobbs and Ursell, but all ten players were a credit to their club, with all named joint men of the match.

The final is due to be played on Sunday, March 13.

UNDER-12

Bourne Sports 0 Predators Youth 4

Bourne had the better of the early exchanges with some long balls testing the Predators defence, in which Connor McCabe was again outstanding.

Predators took the lead as a cross from the right was headed home by Jordan Smith before Alex Stanton gave them a two-goal lead for half-time.

In the second half Predators got stronger, with Jake Evans going from box to box and Alex Burford dominating midfield.

Chances went begging for both teams until Sean Donner added a third so Predators were cruising by the final whistle.

PREDATORS: Fellows, Burford, Clarke, Donner, Evans, Hanslip, Hind, McCabe, Sanctuary, Smith, Stanton.

UNDER-13

Whyke Utd 1 Chi City Colts B 5

Chi City Colts took a strong side to their hosts to keep the pressure on, with two new debutants for the squad.

With the wind against them in the first half, Colts took the early lead with a well-taken goal from Will Newman.

Shortly afterwards Joe Gallop got on the end of a through-ball to beat the keeper and make it two.

Colts kept the pressure on when Cameron Bramley Ayre beat the defence to fire home the Colts’ third.

In the second half Gallop added to his tally with a fine goal to make it four.

Whyke pulled a goal back, but Colts had not finished as five minutes later Declan McGreal finished off to make it five for the Colts.

UNDER-14

Preston Blades 0 Summerley Park Rangers 8

Summerley travelled to Preston Blades on a cold, wet and windy Sunday afternoon.

Blades are third so Summerley were taking nothing for granted, even though Blades were able to field only ten players.

Summerley started well and were 1-0 up within five minutes when Rafferty found the net. Blades were soon down to only nine men when their midfielder sustained a broken ankle.

Blades were battling hard and managed to keep Summerley at bay until Millard converted a Rafferty free-kick with a superb strike into the top corner.

A further goal from Worsley made it 3-0 at half-time.

With the pitch becoming muddier by the minute, passing football was never going to be easy, however man of the match Hayes, Kilhams and Rafferty, working hard on the left wing, kept moving the ball around, with the play hardly out of the Blades half.

Four goals from Mepham and a further goal from Rafferty made the final score 8-0 to Summerley.

Credit must go to Preston Blades for a great battling attitude with only nine men. The Blades keeper, despite the scoreline, had a superb game.

This was another clean sheet and a 14th straight win for Summerley.

Worthing Rebels A 2 Bognor Regis Town Colts 6

Bognor were without their regular keeper so Josh Irish, normally sweeper, stepped up to the mark.

Bognor were kicking into the wind in the first half and Lloyd Rowlatt scored in the first ten minutes, which was followed by another from Rowlatt.

Bognor were in control for most of the half and Worthing had a goal flagged offside. A hat-trick from Rowlatt saw Bognor go in for half-time 3-0 up.

In the second half, Worthing took advantage of the windy conditions and scored two within the first ten minutes.

Bognor fought back hard and were rewarded with a goal from Sam Neal, followed by a good strike from the edge of the area by Jamie Jays.

The last ten minutes saw Jays pass a good ball into Craig Newson who hit the net.

Bognor are second in the table behind Highdown Saints A but with two games in hand.

Barnham 2 Pagham Youth 2

Despite having only ten players, Pagham started the brighter with Misselbrook, Knight and Urbanczk going close.

Against the run of play, Barnham took the lead on 25 minutes when a deflected shot took the ball over Hambidge in the Pagham goal and went in off the post.

The second half started with Pagham playing the better football and they equalised after 50 minutes, with Knight finishing well from the edge of the area.

Pagham continued to dominate with Rodway striking the bar from 25 yards and the Barnham keeper making some good saves.

Barnham took the lead against the run of play when they broke from a Pagham corner to score.

But with seconds remaining Cleall diverted a Rodway free-kick into the net.

Pagham man of the match was Ryan Knight.
