Hornets ease to first friendly win over St Francis

Hornets boss Simon Colbran was pleased with the overall performance of the side and got to see nearly all of his new signings take part in their first full match.

Visiting Horsham were 2-0 up at half time. Former youth player Michael Death, currently on trial scored the first with a well-taken volley, his first ever Horsham goal more than 11 years after first making his debut.

Striker Death set up the second before the interval, crossing for new signing Nihum Green to nod home at the back post.

Colbran made eight changes at half time and ten minutes into the second half Horsham added a third. A Portuguese triallist who Colbran said he was impressed with made the goal which Bill Dunn finished with a good header.

“It was job done really, we won the game and did what we needed to do on a difficult pitch,” Colbran said.

“It was a good run out and good to get that first game under our belt. It doesn’t matter who is put in front of you, you still have to win the game and to be fair they are a decent side with some good young players.

“After the first 20 or so minutes we were in control, we passed the ball well and there were some good partnerships all over the field.”

Colbran picked out Billy Joe King and Charlie Farmer for praise, along with new midfield duo Ross Morley and Byron Napper, while adding: “I was also really impressed with Steven Ibizugbe when he came on, he’s extremely quick.”

Horsham’s next friendly is on Tuesday night away at Epsom Athletic.
