Albion made eight first-team signings in the 2018 summer transfer window and Yves Bissouma has made the most Premier League appearances with 26.

He is followed by Martin Montoya (24), Florin Andone (21), Bernardo (20), Alireza Jahanbakhsh (17), Leon Balogun (eight), back-up keeper David Button (four) and third-choice keeper Jason Steele, who has played just one FA Cup tie.

Hughton admits it could be next year when Albion see the best from the likes of club record signing Jahanbakhsh and striker Andone.

He said: “I think so. There will always be the individuals that come in and hit the ground running. Maybe because they’re able to play through, like a Pascal Gross. Davy Propper took a bit more time.

“Probably what happened with those two was that they played in positions where they were playing regularly.

“Any difficult period, they were able to work through.

“Sometimes, it’s difficult when you’ve brought a player in and you have other options. A lot of players that don’t settle into that first season can or possibly could argue that if they had played more regularly, they would have worked through it.

“But that’s about getting that balance about what you feel is your best team at the time.

“But yes, I think certainly the players you mentioned (Jahanbakhsh and Andone), I’m sure there will be more from them next season.”
