IT'S A LONG ROAD AHEAD

LITTLEHAMPTON-based Steve Long has spent £13,000 to fulfill his dream of becoming a motor rally driver and recently competed in his first race in the BMW Championships.

Long, 33, said: "I had wanted to compete in motor rallying since I was about six and had been watching the Lombard RAC rally as it was then called on BBC. When I sold my house in Ireland and moved back to England in December I decided to give it a go.

"I found about the BMW real wheel drive challenge from a driver competing in a motor rally at Goodwood motor circuit in February this year. Once I had found out about all the relevant regulations, I brought a standard BMW 325i on ebay for 410 and then started to make the modifications with an old school friend, Dave Sliverlock, who has a workshop in Angmering."
