Littlehampton miss out on promotion

LITTLEHAMPTON Cricket Club missed out on promotion to Sussex League Premier Division after a 110-run defeat at Haywards Heath on Saturday.

Heath made 224-8 from their 53 overs with Ed Williams hitting 82. Gary Tester and Chris Hanks both took three wickets for Littlehampton, who in reply were bowled out for 110. And that was after recovering from 19-7. Justin Scott struck 53 not out and Matt Keen scored 27.

Littlehampton, who took eight points from the game, finished third and just two points behind Stirlands, who also lost their final game.

But Stirlands took 11 points from their 62-run loss at Pulborough to grab the second promotion spot behind Chichester.

Arundel finished second in Invitation League Division 2 after a seven-wicket victory over Slinfold.

Slinfold were bowled out for just 104, with five wickets for Rakesh Parmar, and Arundel then got home in 43.2 overs.

In Division 3, Clymping finished third after a six-wicket victory over East Preston, who came sixth.

Colin Smith top-scored with 58 in EP's 158. Richard Waddington and Karl Pierce both took four wickets.

Gareth Challen then blasted 56 and Clymping got home in just 25 overs.

Rustington lost their last game of the season by 84 runs at Southwater in Division 4.

Southwater made 204-8 from their 49 overs and Rustington were 120-8 when they conceded the game due to bad light.
