Having lifted the World Series points title and World Legends Masters Championship two weeks earlier in America, the seasoned racer went into the weekend with a triple title firmly in his sights.

He was keen to finish his season in style for his guests, sponsors and fans that had turned up on mass to watch him become victorious and he did so was two races to spare on the Sunday.

Mickel said: “It’s a long while since we have done the triple - back in 2011, so almost 14 years. So it’s nice to be back on top. There is no way I could have won all three without my sponsors that support me.

“Without their help I would not have been able to get the car over to America in the short time span that we had. So thanks to my local sponsors K-Seal and Oakland Security.”

It proved a difficult weekend with bad weather, diesel slicks and failing light conditions which all resulted in a cautious driver emerging from Mickel’s usual confident self.

He had to ensure that the #4 K-Seal car finished all three races on Saturday to remain a contender for the title that would be decided by the last three races of the season the following day.

He picked up 13th, ninth and 10th place finishes which meant he only lost 150 points from his 650 point lead.

On Sunday, Mickel could still loose the title if he collected less than 100 points over three races together with James Holman in the #6 car winning all three races.

So the Horsham driver slotted in behind Holman in the next race and followed him to the chequered flag to take the 2015 title. The next race was cut short due to Mickel’s first mechanical value of the season, before the final race of was aborted due to light conditions after losing time cleaning up and earlier diesel spill.
