Peter T-J is boy champ of Sussex

PETER TARVER-JONES is the latest talented Worthing Golf Club player to become the Boys Champion of Sussex.

He won it at the fourth attempt in the last five years, and convincingly so, at West Hove on Friday, and he will become ineligible to defend in when he becomes 18 this Sunday.

Having already served notice this year with runner-up spot by two strokes in the Sussex Colts Championship for Under-21s at Chartham Park, and now at his lowest handicap, 0.6, he underlined his ambition to obtain an American College scholarship and eventually turn professional. He won by five strokes, which included a two-shot penalty for striking a tree twig with a practice stroke, from Darryn Els, the South African from High Woods.

Tarver-Jones, who tied third last year with club-mate Darren Renwick, the England Under-16 international, shot 69 early in the morning, the only sub-par 70 round, to lead by two shots from two-handicapper Alasdair Hall-Jones of Royal Eastbourne.
