Pook sees fans getting behind the boys

WORTHING FC supporters have begun to warm to the cause of their team depending on fulfilling its faith in youth.

Joint-manager Alan Pook believes the Rebels fans now understand much better the need: "The crowd have been fantastic and have got behind the young players. The small element who haven't seem to have disappeared.

"When we played Met Police at home earlier in February, we had seven or eight young players. None of them wanted the ball because they were being jeered by some of the crowd. With more encouragement we could have got a 2-2 draw instead of losing 2-1.

"But now they are settling down. Karly Akehurst is getting into his role in midfield and Stuart Axten has been very good in his last four games.

"You have to encourage young players. We can't financially afford to bring in players of the quality of Richard Pacquette or Stafford Browne like we did. What you get, when you do what we're doing instead, is young men giving 100 per cent for the club. Only time will tell if they will be strong enough finally to make it at this level."

Rebels who are 18: Karly Akehurst, Stuart Axten, Lloyd Skinner, Jamie Brotherton, Jarahl Hughes.

Rebels who are 19: Rikki Banks, Enzo Benn.
