Ray’s triple take honours ininaugural Alan Parr event

On Sunday 36 members of Burgess Hill BC took part in the inaugural Alan Parr Memorial Triples Day.

Alan was a valued club member and committee man when he passed away in 2012. His family have put up a trophy in his memory which will be played for annually.

The day commenced with a breakfast of bacon and sausage baps and at lunch time the players and other members tucked into a wonderful barbecue of various pork and chicken dishes.

In the competition itself 12 teams competed in two pools, with the top team in each playing off in a final.

Including the final, the winners and runners up each played 35 ends and were, understandably, very tired by the end of the day.

Eventual winners were Ray Jordan (skip), Daphne Kennard and Terry Cottrell, who narrowly beat the team of Chris Wilkins (skip), David Antliff and Chris Neville.

The trophy was presented by Alan’s son-in-law Ronnie Paulsen on behalf of Alan’s daughter Joanne and other members of the Parr family, all of whom were present.

It was a mixed week for Haywards Heath & Beech Hurst as they took a 30-shot thumping against Southwick Park but claimed narrow victories over Preston (by 9) and Lindfield (by 3).
