In the singles, Rustington stormed to a 6-1 victory. There were victories for Westgate (2&1), O'Sullivan (4&2), Newman (2&1), Massey (7&6), Snelgrove (4&2) and Osman (4&2). Fenton finished all square but Hill lost 6&4.

Rustington team captain Steve Wyatt said: "Being 3-1 up after the foursomes certainly helped. We are usually down after the morning and rely on the singles format to come back.

"Our aim, like all clubs, is to compete and progress as far as possible each year. I am trying to ensure that the Centre's scratch team has a more professional approach to the Davies & Tate events. We build in friendlies against established opposition to ensure that when we enter our first game, we have the right attitude and mentality to perform.

"We are only a small club, which I think works in our favour, as all the guys know each other and this creates a great team spirit throughout.

"It is a massive compliment to Rustington Golf Centre to hear sides congratulate us now on both our golf and our course. All credit to the lads for the way they have competed so far."

In the Trophy 3rd round, winning all the foursomes put Haywards Heath into a commanding position and they did not let Ham Manor off the hook winning 9-3, reports John Vinicombe.

"It was just a good team performance.Everybody contributed points," said Heath team captain Andy Hull.

The Cowley brothers, Sam and Tim were unstoppable in the foursomes winning 6&5 to record the best win of the day. Their Only blip was Tim losing his singles by one hole to Andy Newbon after Sam coasted home by 4&3 at the expense of Paul Gill.
