Sidley rediscover winning touch

SIDLEY finally rediscovered the winning formula as they avenged their earlier defeat to neighbours Bexhill with a dramatic final over victory at Gullivers.

Pakistani express bowler Imran Javed removed the last two batsmen with the second and third balls of the final over to become the club's all-time leading wicket taker in a single season with 47 scalps.

The 78-run success was only Sidley's second ever victory over their town rivals.

Sidley skipper Scott Woodroffe said: "It was a good all-round performance and I think nobody could have any complaints really. I wouldn't say we dominated the batting, there were a couple of times when it could have gone either way."

Opposite number Steve Phillimore commented: "They played better than us and the better side on the day won."

Jon Haffenden (39) started the home team's innings competently and his much improved display appeared to rub off on his team-mates as Tyrone Wildman (44) and Chris Hunnisett (44 not out) helped amass a total of 225-8. Matthew Blackman (3-84) and Aussie Peter Lewis (2-19) were the leading wicket-takers.

The visitors' response got off to a sedate but assured start with the in-form John Holland grinding out 35. Blackman contributed 42 but the required run rate was always mounting and they were eventually dismissed for 147. Javed claimed 5-44 and Wildman 3-25.
