The day began on a Victory mini bus and the children said a victory was exactly what they wanted... and it was what they got.

The team of ten gave their all and their teachers said it was fantastic to watch them put their nerves to positive use, culminating in brilliant performances and several personal-best times.

As a small school, they were especially delighted to do well because they were Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils swimming against teams of older pupils from bigger schools.

They had 18 races in total and got into the final of all but one of the events. They also took time to cheer other schools.

Overall West Dean’s girls’ team came third, the boys’ team came joint second and those points added together meant they won overall by more than ten points.

Thanks went to supportive parents, dedicated staff and determined children.
