A FERRING teenager impressed on his windsurfing competition debut when he finished in second place in the final juniors' English leg of the UK Four Nations Cup at West Wittering.

Sam Darkin (15) made such a spectacular debut that he beat the series leader back into fourth place.

Light winds on the opening day meant no official competition but a freestyle and wave expression event was set up and his third place in this event gave him confidence for the main competition that was still to come.

On the second day, winds were strong and on shore, making things difficult, and the under-16s had an early start on a busy day.

Only the winners of four six-minute heats were to go through.
