Worthing cannot get any closer

WORTHING CC go to Sidley on Saturday hoping to complete a league double in a match both sides need to win if they are to avoid the league wooden spoon.

Sidley scored 263 for six chasing to win at home to Pulborough while Worthing stayed bottom after failing by two runs to chase down Stirlands' 180 for nine at the Manor Ground.

Chris Mansell, after four weeks out of action, faced his first delivery, the last of the match, and missed the ball when hoping to steer left-arm spinner Hasindar Singh down to third man for an anticipated two.

Skipper David Rogers and Andy Lutwyche had taken Worthing into the last over with 11 runs wanted. An edge gave Lutters a four but he then picked out the man at deep mid-wicket when picking up on a slow delivery.
