From Monday (March 13), West Sussex Highways will be restoring roads in Bentswood, Haywards Heath to give the shopping parade a boost, a scheme which is costing £300,000.

Work will be carried out in the day time from Monday to Friday and will last for six weeks.

No work is planned for weekends.

America Lane in Bentswood is having a makeover and engineers will be making the road safer for motorists and pedestrians by renewing and adding traffic calming measures, a spokesman from West Sussex County Council (WSCC) said.

Blockwork paving, planters, bins and cycle racks are also being installed in the road.

Due to the renovation works America Lane between the Westlands Land junction and the Bentswood Road junction will close at some points during the project.

A signed diversion route will be in place during any closure.

In addition to this two new road humps are being added in Westlands Road and Allen Road is also being resurfaced.

WSCC’s cabinet member for Highways and Transport, Bob Lanzer, said: “Our improvements here will have two main benefits.

“It will improve the look and feel of the area outside the Bentswood shopping parade, and the upgraded traffic calming will make drivers travel slower.

“This scheme has taken a couple of years to come to fruition, but we are delighted to be in a position to deliver these improvements for Bentswood now.”
