LETTER: Protect our green fields

The Government Inspector is demanding Mid Sussex County Council to Increase our current housing from 800 dwellings per annum proposed in its District Plan to 1,026 and that several Greenfield Sites previously rejected by the Council are reconsidered for housing development.

Over the past years, we have spent time, effort and tax payers’ money on compiling our Neighbourhood Plans as directed by the Government and yet we are constantly being deluged / continually attacked by more and more planning applications, simply because the respective land owners and the developers want to get in before these locally agreed, democratic plans for developing our communities come into to action.

Now it’s the government inspector that is making demands on our country side – green fields!

It makes a total mockery of this governments iniative and any further plans should not be considered until the Neighbourhood Plans come into effect.

We elect our government in this country to do the best for our communities, to ensure all aspects of our lives are considered and above all to act on the wishes of the communities that they represent.

Without taking into account the complete area of Mid Sussex and planning accordingly as directed by the local communities , then this subject will remain a major issue that affects the lives of all of our citizens.

This application by application approach and now yet again a demand for increase is a mess and does nothing to improve the life of our communities and ruins the future for our children and the land that they live on.

This is a very special commodity which our forefathers have fought and died for, don’t let’s lose it, give it up to bricks and concrete, once gone it will never come back!

What is agreed for one area regarding planning development can have a dramatic effect on another that’s why a co–ordinated overall plan for the development of Mid Sussex with the communities totally involved is so important,it’s the only democratic way forward.

In Mid Sussex green fields are a major part of our lives, our communities and as our elected bodies you should be acting on our wishes. Protect them!

Reject this government-appointed planning inspector’s demand to increase our current housing in Mid Sussex and protect our communities and our countryside – green fields.

Keep Mid Sussex Green.
