Burgess Hill Town 2, Kingstonian 1: Full match report

The Hillians moved up to 19th in the Ryman Premier after just their second win in ten games, but remain only two points above the drop zone heading into the final six games.

Chapman said “It was vital we got a result, vital we didn’t get beat. It now puts pressure on the teams around us”.

The Hillians took the lead after just 90 seconds, Sam Fisk’s header from a corner was met by Lucas Rodrigues who back-heeled the ball into the Kingstonian net from five yards.

The K’s responded with a corner of their own curling towards the Hillians goal which keeper James Shaw palmed over the crossbar.

Rodrigues broke away down the flank on 14 minutes and squared the ball to Pat Harding who’s side-footed shot was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Rob Tolfrey.

The K’s keeper denied Harding yet again moments later, a wonder strike from 25-yards out met by a wonder save.

Burgess Hill went into the break 1-0 up and started the second half brightly as Rodrigues’s shot from outside the area was held by Tolfrey.

Alan Inns drew the visitors level on the hour mark, heading home a lofted free-kick in which the Hill defence failed to deal with.

It was only a matter of minutes before Chapman’s side were back in front, Rodrigues’s dangerous cross was met by Kingstonian defender Charlie Wassmer who clumsily bundled the ball into his own net.

Chapman believes two wins from the final six should be enough to keep his side in the division “Rather than looking at the teams around us, we need to get a certain amount of points from six games.”

“If we can get two wins from the final six, that will leave us with 52 points and you would like to think that would be enough, but I could be wrong.”

“It is only three points today, it is a win towards trying to get safe but we are not safe yet, we have got to go again”.

Burgess Hill now face two consecutive away games, the first next Saturday against Harlow followed by the reverse fixture against Kingstonian on the Monday evening.
